ABOUT WEBAL

These pages, collective referred to as Webresources for African Languages (or WebAL) provide a link central for web-accessible material relating to African languages. WebAL's main intention is to collects links to other sites hosting free stuff, be they downloadable files (of any format), web-readable texts, searchable databases, whatever. Particular attention is given to materials that contain structural/descriptive data, though not exclusively so. Links to commercial enterprises won't be added, as a rule.

Most of the links are organised according to the six major African language groupings:

(These categories may change eventually.)

On the above pages, you can find links to linguistic material categorised language-wise, under separate headings for each individual language that I have found material for. Or else, there are further links to take you to the proper page.

Thus if you're looking for material on, say, Swahili, you first need to know that it is a Bantu language. You also need to know that the Bantu languages belong to the Niger-Congo language family. You then click your way to the Bantu page, and from there you will eventually (hopefully) find the Swahili page.

If you do not know the language-family belonging of any particular language, then you can start by consulting SIL's Ethnologue. There you can easily find whatever language family any language belongs to.

CONTACT & SUGGEST LINKS AND IMPROVEMENTS

WebAL is maintained by Guy de Pauw & Co., and is currently in the process of a major remodelling.

The contents of these pages rely crucially on help from others. So, if you know of anything you think ought to be on these pages, or if you want to report bad links, send a mail to "guy.depauw(at)ua.ac.be".

DISCLAIMER(S)

WebAL contains links to other sites. Thus it does not host any actual files or documents.

There is no guarantee that all links will work at all times. However, they did work when they were added to these pages.

WebAL is not reponsible for the contents of files that are linked to. Links to offensive, inappropriate and/or commercial material will be deleted as soon as I am made aware of their existence.

All copyrights remain firmly with the original copyright holders. Please respect this.

Layout and contents of any page at WebAL may change at any time without prior notice.
